This was the case for both versions of Link’s Awakening introduced back in the afternoon, about the Game Boy and Game Boy Color, and it’s something the new Nintendo Switch variant of this game incorporates too.
Evidently, spoilers for the game’s ending lie below.
After waking the Windfish and seeing Koholint Island evaporate, Link wakes up floating at the sea holding to some driftwood. Had the entire adventure been a dream? No – because your hulking Windfish itself unexpectedly seems, flying overhead.
It’s here the end credits rollup, and after those you are going to find a closing”The End” message.
But if you’ve beaten the entire of Link’s Awakening without dying, you will then get a heartwarming Easter egg comprising Marin, Link’s crush and closest in-game ally.
During your experience, Marin informs you she needs nothing more than just depart Koholint herself, also will wish to the Windfish to make it occur.
“If I had been a seagull, I’d fly up to as I could! I would fly to far away places and sing for a lot of individuals! … If I wish to the Wind Fish, I always wonder if my dream will come true.”
And it is this you’ll get to find out whether you have that no-death save – the consequence being the Marin obtained her wish and was spared, even though Koholint Island being no more.Join Us legend of zelda gameboy rom website
From the Game Boy Color variation, Link’s Awakening DX, a vision of Marin herself has been briefly seen, in front of a seagull is revealed flying off. The implication here is not as that Marin has sprouted wings, and more that her wish has come true.
At length, from the Nintendo Switch version, which is a direct remaster of this DX ending. We see a fantasy of Marin, until the seagull flies off. Is Link just recalling her if he sees that the seagull? Or has she been reincarnated as a soul? The game enables you to pick.
It’s among the many ways Link’s Awakening on Change remains authentic to the first game – that in turn proved to be a significant reason I found a lot to love about this remake. “Koholint deserves nothing less, and while Link must travel to leave its beaches, this version will always be a place that keeps the island to allow other people to follow,” I wrote in Eurogamer’s Link’s Awakening Switch inspection.
